The Challenge

First Local Services is a professional drainage company operating across more than 50 towns and cities throughout the South of England, providing expert blocked drain clearance, drainage repairs, and emergency unblocking services to both residential and commercial customers. With a growing network of locations, the business needed a scalable digital presence that would place each location at the top of Google for high-intent, emergency searches — the kind where a homeowner types "blocked drains Southampton" or "blocked drains Bristol" and needs a trusted, local answer immediately.

The challenge was significant in both scale and complexity. Each location operates under its own geo-targeted domain — southampton-drains.co.uk, brighton-drains.co.uk, bristol-drains.co.uk and so on, spanning 50+ individual websites — meaning every site needed to rank independently and authoritatively within its own local market. The network covered towns including Basingstoke, Bracknell, Brighton, Croydon, Harrow, Horsham, Kingston, Maidenhead, Northampton, Portsmouth, Sevenoaks, Stevenage, Sutton, Twickenham, Wimbledon, Woking, Wokingham, Worthing, Bedford, Havant, Richmond, Tunbridge Wells, Watford, Winchester, Windsor, Bournemouth, Fareham, Farnborough, Hayes, Kettering, Rickmansworth, Salisbury, Guildford, Oxford, Hemel Hempstead, Exeter, New Forest, Slough, Dorchester, Torquay, Bristol, Redhill, Plymouth, Reading, St Albans, Taunton, Southampton, Aylesbury and more.

The risks were real. Deploying the same content across 50+ domains would trigger Google duplicate content filters and result in all sites being suppressed. Inconsistent NAP (name, address, phone) data across such a large network would undermine local authority. Without a precise, well-engineered strategy, the sites would compete with one another rather than dominate independently — and the investment in the domain network would be wasted.

Simply publishing pages was not enough. Google local search algorithms reward genuine local relevance, topical authority, and trusted business signals. First Local Services needed each site to function as a credible, independently authoritative local business in Google eyes — not a scaled copy-paste operation.

Our Approach

Takeoff Digital designed and executed a comprehensive multi-location local SEO strategy built from the ground up to handle the demands of a geo-targeted domain network at this scale.

Unique, Location-Specific Content Architecture:

Every site received fully bespoke content built around its specific town — referencing local postcodes, surrounding villages, nearby landmarks, and area-specific drainage considerations. Content was researched and written to reflect genuine local intent, ensuring no two pages were templated duplicates. This approach signalled authentic local relevance to both users and search engines, protecting the network from duplicate content penalties whilst building individual page authority for each location.

LocalBusiness Schema & Structured Data:

We implemented precise LocalBusiness JSON-LD structured data across every site, including service type, geographic area served, opening hours, and verified contact details. This structured data gave Google clear, machine-readable signals to confidently associate each domain with its specific location and service offering — a critical component for both organic rankings and local pack eligibility.

Google Business Profile Optimisation:

Individual Google Business Profiles were created and optimised for each location, with consistent NAP data, service category selections, keyword-rich business descriptions, photo assets, and an ongoing review acquisition strategy. Visibility in the local map pack (Google 3-pack) was a core objective alongside organic rankings, and GBP optimisation was central to achieving that.

Local Citation Building:

We built consistent, accurate citations across UK business directories, drainage trade directories, and local community platforms for each location — reinforcing each site geographic authority and ensuring uniformity of contact data across the web. Citation consistency at this scale required a systematic approach, with each location treated as a discrete entity with its own citation profile.

Technical SEO Foundation:

Every site was audited and optimised for Core Web Vitals performance, mobile-first indexing, crawl efficiency, and clean site architecture. Fast, technically sound sites provided the strongest possible foundation for the content and authority signals to translate into rankings.

Scalable Content & Optimisation Framework:

Rather than managing 50+ sites in isolation, we developed an efficient operational framework that allowed consistent quality, regular content updates, and ongoing optimisation to be delivered across the entire network — ensuring no location fell behind and that improvements rolled out systematically.

The Result

The strategy delivered dominant, measurable search visibility across every target location in the network.

- #1 organic rankings achieved for "blocked drains [location]" across all 50+ sites — including Bristol, Southampton, Brighton, Oxford, Portsmouth, Plymouth, Bournemouth, Reading, Guildford, Watford and more

- Local pack (Google Maps 3-pack) visibility achieved and maintained in each target town, placing First Local Services at the very top of search results where emergency drainage customers are most likely to convert

- Zero cannibalisation between network sites — each domain ranking independently and authoritatively in its own market, with no suppression or cross-interference between locations

- 50+ geo-targeted domains operating as individually trusted local businesses in Google eyes, each with its own citation profile, Google Business Profile, and organic authority

- Consistent, measurable organic lead generation for First Local Services across the South of England, with the network continuing to grow as new locations are added

This project stands as a benchmark for what is achievable with a precisely engineered, high-volume local SEO strategy. Ranking a single website at number one locally is straightforward. Ranking 50+ independent domains simultaneously, each in a different town, with no cannibalisation and full local pack coverage, requires a fundamentally different level of strategic thinking, operational discipline, and technical execution — and that is exactly what Takeoff Digital delivered for First Local Services.
